Finca Mexico was inherited by Ines Carrasco Carhuapoma over a decade ago. Ines, 49 years old and born in La Coipa, has been around coffee farms his entire life. His coffee is grown under the shade of native shrubs and trees. On average he produces around 57 quintals of parchment coffee per season and is working to increase his production, investing back into his farm with the intent of increasing quality as well. Some of the challenges that Ines faces every season is the ever present coffee leaf rust disease and the lack of access to the main road. Parchment  is delivered on foot and carried by back or mule to the nearest transport point.
Eric Jarra is the leader of this cooperative, along with 25 producers from Barro Negro, began Alpes Andino on January 27th 2019. Working in Huabal and La Coipa, Eric has a long history of integrity and a priority of ensuring farmers receive a fair wage. Red Fox Coffee Merchants are just getting going with Alpes Andino, they expect the quality to be exemplary of what Huabal and La Coipa have to offer, and have already seen Eric’s investment in fairness and equitability start to pay off in the cup.
Total partner membership has reached 150 people already. The organization focuses on providing workshops around quality improvement, but there have been some setbacks as the weather patterns have changed, drying of parchment has been challenging. Each producer has their own beneficio and solar dryer. Parchment is measured to 11% water content before sent to the dry mill in Chiclayo.
Red Fox Coffee Merchants are an exemplary coffee trader and are involved in every step of the process with the farmers. Behind every coffee they offer there is a great deal of intention and investment. Through developing relationships with the farmers, cooperatives, and communities they buy from, they are building a stronger, more resilient supply chain. Consistency and repeatability are critical for them. They aren’t in this for just one season. We are very proud to be part of this movement and buy green coffee from them because they hold true to every single ideal that South Slope Coffee believes in.
